How many of us want to live in absolute security? Have we found the absolute security we’re looking for in money, family, possessions, positions, or our government? I didn’t find it there. My greatest security is always found when I live in integrity because it draws me close to Almighty God. His Word says,

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” (Proverbs 10:9) “The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The Lord is near to all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” (Psalms‬ ‭145:17-18‬)

Our greatest security is in God; however, to be close to Him, we must live with integrity.

Integrity is an all or nothing proposition.

God’s truth is the only real truth and either we can accept it all. To reject any part of it—is dangerous. The Bible says: “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs‬ ‭14:12‬)

Any area we choose to compromise God’s commandments is like a small hole in a hidden part of a powerful ship. It will eventually cause the ship to sink. It doesn’t matter how powerful or beautiful the ship is, because the ocean will not discriminate based upon the size or location of a hole. When we compromise our integrity in any area of our life, we create a hole. Every area of our life does matter—personal, professional, family, financial, and most importantly—our thought life—which is usually where sin begins. All areas are susceptible to penetration by the waters of sin. I used to buy into the lie that my private or hidden sins didn’t hurt anyone; however, the truth is that they hurt me because they separate me from my Heavenly Father.

Sin sinks my ship.

Once God introduced me to the security of His integrity, I was determined to rid myself of everything that puts holes in my ship. This requires constant vigilance because white lies, evil thoughts and secret sins are constantly banging on my hull and seeking to sink this beautiful ship God created. We are created in His image.

When God is our captain, the security of knowing His power, wisdom, love and care—keeps us desiring to live in integrity more than we desire sin.
