Unfortunately, most of us associate “holiness” with living a dull, or legalistic life. Most of us do NOT believe that a life of holiness would be an attractive or fun life. Well, of course we don’t! Our great enemy doesn’t want us to know the truth about the incredible life we can have when we live in holiness!!! So we hold onto our sin—instead of seeking God’s holiness through obedience to His Word.
The Bible makes this astounding statement about the pursuit of holiness:
“Pursue…holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)
Without holiness we cannot SEE the Lord!
To “see” God is to EXPERIENCE Him. The Bible explains:
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (II Corinthians 3:18)
Whenever, we SEE God, He removes the veil and He transforms us. We recognize He is a living, personal presence, not a remote entity. When, through living in holiness, God is personally present with us and there is nothing between us and Him, we shine with the brightness of His presence and we become brighter and more beautiful as God enters our life and we become like him. BUT…
If we can’t SEE God; we can’t know Him. Holiness gives us a personal audience with God.
For example, I have a “relationship” with the President of the United States because I am a citizen and his decisions affect me. But am I welcomed into his presence where I am able to actually SEE and KNOW him? Doubtful. Similarly, as a Christian I am under the rule of Christ who protects and provides for me. But—do I really SEE Him and EXPERIENCE His presence? Or, do I just know ABOUT Him? If I was living in His presence, my whole countenance would SHINE with His glory—like Moses did when he came off the mountain.
You see, we can love learning about God, but unless our character and behavior are changed (we are transformed) to become holy—we will not experience the presence of God.
How many Christians do you know who claim to know Jesus but live as if they have never met Him?
Only those who walk in holiness can enter into His presence. When we do, then we can better understand why Moses, when he saw God’s magnificent presence, left behind being a rich prince of Egypt to follow God on a radically different path!
Jesus made the connection between holiness and seeing God very clear—when He said:
“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:19-21)
Wowza! God offers us the gift of HIS presence—which is far more awesome than the presence of the greatest human! Holiness is our bridge to living in the presence of our magnificent Creator, Savior, and Lover of our soul! If you do NOT passionately desire God’s presence; ask Him to lift the veil of the enemy’s lies from your eyes and reveal His profound goodness! He will transform your life!
