When we worship God in church, attend small group Bible study, teach Sunday school, or do anything that evokes a spiritual high—we can very easily become satisfied with this experience. But we must not allow ourselves to be fooled—it is NOT a substitute for the experience of God’s presence. We need to experience BOTH; however, the most important of the two is, by far—God’s presence.

How do you know if you are experiencing God’s presence?

Here are several indicators I’ve experienced:

  • My life is constantly being transformed.
  • I’m learning to hate all forms of evil so much that I don’t WANT to be engaged in it. In other words, if I start to do something wrong—the HOLY Spirit grieves me so much, I jump back as if I’ve almost stepped on a poisonous snake!
  • Learning to have a HOLY fear of God which makes me desperately afraid to lose the strong sense of His presence; instead of—a SINFUL fear of God that makes me want to hide from Him.
  • A passionate desire to spend time with God!

Keep in mind, our enemies are experts in ways to give us an emotional high in—movies, music, and entertainment of all kinds. They are masters of making us feel good—even about evil. These same enemies have also invaded Christianity and convinced many people that an emotional high is enough. Why? Because the enemy’s plan is to keep our heart’s desire captivated by something less than the wonder of God’s presence! Before satan was cast from heaven, he knew the delights of God’s presence and—his plan is to make sure we never do!

God offers us so much more in HIS PRESENCE!

In God’s presence we are offered the most intriguing, delightful, and captivating life!

Don’t be fooled by the plan of the enemy who portrays a life of holiness as dull and powerless. If we are truly born again, we not only asked Jesus to be our Savior, but we also surrendered to His Lordship—100%. Just like when a man says “I do” to a woman at the altar. She would NOT be okay with him committing 364 days to her but reserving one day a year to date other women!

Similarly, when we are born again—we belong 100% to God.

“But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:17-20‬)

God is wooing us into His presence, where we will be transformed and experience the most fascinating life we could ever live!
