One of the most idiotic thing I do is—OVER AND OVER AGAIN—is to fall for to the same PREDICTABLE schemes of the enemy!

Let me explain. If I were in an MMA match, and I KNEW the opponent had a wicked guillotine choke—I’d never purposefully place myself in a position to let him use it. AND—if he’d already used it on me once, I certainly wouldn’t put myself in the same position to let him use it again! In fact, before the next match with him, you’d think that I would train harder to fight against this powerful move; AND I’d also get rid of any bad habits that would make me vulnerable—right?!?. You would think so—but I don’t—not in the fight that really matters!!!

WE are in a much more critical fight:

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬)

So—I ask must myself: When I know the enemy’s BEST moves against me—why do I allow myself to be tripped up by the same moves—over and over again?

Look, the enemy already knows my greatest weaknesses, so I am an idiot—to not address them and to be on guard for the enemy’s moves against me where I’m most weak—right?

I NEED to make a plan:

  • WHERE do my greatest weaknesses lie?
  • HOW will the enemy use my weaknesses to strategically attack and put me in submission?
  • WHAT is my plan for defense?
  • WHAT’S my plan for counter-attack?

I don’t want to be foolishly falling for the same enemy moves—do you?!?

I want to be the kind of warrior that is so powerful that the enemy has to constantly be coming up with new moves to try to knock me out of the battle!  Solomon wrote:

“The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin. He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray.” (Proverbs 5:22-23)

If we lack the discipline to avoid the SAME head-locks of sin, then we’re stuck in stupidity—or, as Solomon put it—living in “great folly.” While Proverbs chapter five is about the foolishness of being ensnared in sexual immorality; (which is a HUGE problem in our modern culture) don’t give yourself a pass if this isn’t your sin of choice because ALL sin makes a FOOL out of us!

Are you wise and brave enough to take a hard look at what the enemy is using to knock you out of the fight—over and over again?

Is it anger, that’s destroying your ability to think clearly and act with precision? Is it paralyzing fear which keeps you cowering in the corner of the ring? What about worry, which defeats you before you even get in the ring? Or are you filling your heart with trash of the world which weakens you to the point you are knocked flat on your back with the first punch of your opponent? How about an unhealthy obsession over someone who has hurt you? My friends, these are some examples of the snares I’ve identified in my life!

But I don’t want to live defeated—do you???

If I’m going to be knocked on my derrière—it better be from something I didn’t see coming! In the meantime, I’m going to hunker down and identify ANY sin that “so easily besets” me and—pray, train, and prepare so I WON’T fall for it again. (Hebrews 12:1) I’m going to draw close to God so HE can coach me in the ring. He knows all the moves of the enemy—even before the enemy knows them!

We were created for a Divine purpose and Christ paid the ultimate price so we could live it.

All day long—we have choices to make—to either, lie flat on our back in the ring of spiritual warfare, or to be on our feet and in the fight!

Which will it be?
